That sensitivity shows up in three ways.
First, operation becomes less forgiving. If one roller is out of adjustment or one hinge starts to drag, the difference is easier to feel in a six-panel set than in a three-panel set.
Second, maintenance becomes more demanding. More panels mean more corners, more tracks, more intersections, and more places for grit to collect. The system may still work, but it will not keep the same easy feel unless it is maintained.
Third, the closed wall becomes busier. More panels mean more vertical lines across the glass, and that can matter just as much as the open view. In a living area, the closed position is the default position. If the closed wall feels fragmented every day, the opening has to earn that visual cost.
